Submission | Waitaki District Council Plan Review - Historical Heritage Chapter 2019
By Otago Chamber of Commerce | Posted: Friday August 23, 2019
The North Otago branch of the Otago Chamber of Commerce welcomes the opportunity to continue to work with Council in their review of the District Pan in relation to heritage buildings and areas.
As has been the case to date, our contribution focussed on developing a plan that supports “what is good for business”.
We support the revitalisation of our heritage zones, encouraging mixed use of these properties to
develop a vibrant heritage area. Vibrant areas attract people and people generate business. However, we are mindful that revitalisation of the heritage zones should not be at a significant cost to business.
In our submission we acknowledged the changes to the District Plan to date which make it easier for landlords of heritage buildings to undertake earthquake strengthening and other alteration work. We did however feel there were a number of areas for improvement to the draft Historical Heritage Chapter and set this out in detail in the submission.
