Young Enterprise Pitch Day Success
By The Otago Chamber of Commerce | Posted: Sunday June 21, 2020
Over three days last week 38 teams from 11 high schools around Otago successfully pitched their business idea to a panel of expert judges.
Pitch Day is a highlight in the YES calendar for all involved but also a daunting event for all the students taking a part.
This year due to the increase in schools, teams and the widespread locations of some schools involved, Pitch Day became a three day event!
Proudly sponsored and hosted onsite at Polson Higgs on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 June, our judging panel had the important task of watching our YES teams pitch their business plans and provide positive yet constructive feedback - which they nailed with style!
A third Pitch Day took place in Cromwell on Friday for our Central Otago based teams from Maniototo Area School and Cromwell College, alongside Mt Aspiring College who are under the wing of the Southland Chamber. We would like to thank the Otago Polytechnic Central Campus for hosting us in Cromwell for the day.
A huge thank you again to our judging panel of Courtney Adams and David Young from Polson Higgs, David Frame from Craig's Investment Partners and Rachel Butler from Startup Dunedin who was also on our panel in Central Otago alongside Melanie Kees from Otago Polytechnic, Rachel Prendergast from Findex, and Nick Fifield from Flux Capacity! An awesome effort from everyone!
The business ideas from the 38 teams involved were varied and often in different stages of readiness. We have some sole traders, running successful landscaping and honey businesses. We also have a number of teams in a range of businesses, from showcasing the latest in natural acne treatment, creating new games for us all to enjoy or changing the face of music production.
