Be Your Own Boss
“Be your own Boss” is a programme run on behalf of Work and Income New Zealand.

Starting up a business can seem risky. Even a great idea is not guaranteed to succeed, but the chances are improved by understanding the important areas which need to be managed and controlled. Starting a business can be very rewarding and a move towards independence.

The course will teach you how to be your own boss, how to get started and how to manage your small business.  Suitable for anyone who wishes to start a business, the course lasts two weeks on a full time basis and costs $800(incl).  However, the course may be fully funded for Work and Income NZ clients.

Topics covered include:

Strategic planning        Market research        Costing your product/service        Employment law        Legal structures        Marketing        Building a budget        OSH
Tax        Promotion of your business        Cash flow        budgets        Leases        Insurance        How to arrange finance        Communication        Time management

During the two weeks of the course time is given to complete your own Business Plan and a business mentor will be available during the course for one on one sessions.  Business plans will be assessed for viability with ongoing mentoring and support if the plan is completed and an Enterprise Allowance is granted

CadetMax supports young people in getting a job and gaining a qualification through a cadetship with an employer.
A cadet will
• Get to learn a skill, gain experience in a career and earn a good wage
• Have an entry level job that is the foot in the door to a career that may otherwise not be available to someone without qualifications
• Gain a lifetime skill
• Gain a skill held in demand by other employers and in other cities and countries

The courses are available at a range of different levels from introductory to advanced which means you can choose the right one to enhance your current skills.

Enterprise Training
A fully funded business training programme provided on behalf of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.  This Enterprise Training Programme is aimed at up-skilling the owners and operators of small and medium-sized enterprises to help them develop and grow their businesses.  The Enterprise Training Programme is delivered by specialist trainers and offers a range of 3 hour workshops, complemented by follow-up coaching designed to enable the attendee to implement what they have learnt.

To qualify for these workshops, owners and operators of small to medium sized business must have less than 50 full-time equivalent staff; personally own the business and be commercially trading for profit.

Specific training is also offered for exporting, raising capital, business start-up and Maori Trusts.

4Trades Apprenticeship Programme
4Trades is an apprentice training trust programme designed to reduce the compliance issues and costs involved in training young people that often stops firms from employing apprentices.

As an alternative to traditional apprenticeships, 4Trades employs the apprentice on behalf of a business and effectively takes control of the day to day administration of the apprenticeship.

The 4Trades initiative allows the apprentice to be selected, employed, managed and mentored by an experienced apprentice facilitator thus leaving the trades company (or Training Host as they now become) free to concentrate on the actual on job training of the apprentice.

Why does 4Trades work?
• 4Trades’ experienced facilitators will assist with initial apprentice recruitment and selection. We support you with wage negotiations and implement Apprentice Employment Contracts and Training Agreements.
• 4Trades manages all aspects of the apprentices’ theory training requirements. We liaise with the Industry Training Provider and Polytechnic, organise travel and accommodation for block courses and most importantly ensure that they complete and pass their courses!
• 4Trades apprentices have an 80% success rate over three years! By utilising the experience of our facilitators in areas such as performance management and employment issues the apprentice failure rate is greatly reduced thus saving you time and disruption to your business.
• 4Trades administers all compliance cost payments on your behalf. This includes ACC, PAYE and ITO Fees. We facilitate regular performance reviews and monitor equipment maintenance.
• 4Trades mentor and motivate the apprentice during regular on site visits and off job distance learning reviews.
• There are significant financial benefits in choosing the 4Trades initiative. With 4Trades becoming the employer of your apprentice, a percentage of the fees charged to you are tax deductible as a business expense.
